About me
As far back as I can remember I was the child in the family
who was called upon to take family photos because
“he does such a good job.” Looking back on the family
photos I now realize I’m the missing child in our family of
5 children. Luckily, someone else took a few shots with me
in the photos or else I would swear I don’t exist.

I’m a New Mexico native. Not Native American or Hispanic but of Irish-Welsh descent, born and living here most of my life. I’m
somewhat of a rarity according to an art gallery owner I met in
Santa Fe whom, being from the East Coast, had never met anyone born in New Mexico. Really, all one has to do in Santa Fe is get away from the Plaza area and there’s a world full of us native New Mexicans.

I’ve freelanced in the corporate world of advertising photography,
photographed models that were signed by a major modeling agency, and produced commercials for television. I can also add copywriter, morning show host and program director for radio to my credits. I’ve recently left the commercial, corporate world to be a full time artist. You should hear the responses from people when I tell them what I do. A few are awed, most are still laughing in disbelief.

As a “rendering-impaired” artist I first chose photography as my medium. This medium was my passion for many years but evolved. As a fan of Pollock, Rauschenberg, Kandinsky and other artists I wanted to create
works of color, texture, and emotion, which eluded me with the realism inherent in photography. Now I primarily create with acrylics, oils, and
tempera on canvas, rag paper, and watercolor paper. I haven’t completely distanced myself from photography as I still have my 4x5 view camera if the desire to create a photograph arises.

I like my work to appear chaotic and unfinished, completely opposite of my humanness needing order. If a painting appears to have a sun and hills it is not so. It is my thought process and emotion hopefully
devoid of a semblance to realism.

As with all humans it is a quest for meaning.
